Artist Biography
b. 1962, St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies. Walsh, like so many of his contemporaries, nurtured his vocal styling by singing in church. He also attended the celebrated Catholic Alpha Boys School, previously attended by artists such as Rico Rodriguez and Don Drummond. At the school Walsh was taught by nuns who were renowned for their meticulous musical guidance, which resulted in the young singer successfully completing his formal studies. By the late 70s he had migrated with his family to New York, USA where he pursued a career in music. He initially became involved in touring and in session work accompanying artists such as ska veterans the Skatalites and Jackie Mittoo. In the ensuing years Walsh worked with Garnett Silk, Dennis Brown, Pablo Moses, the Heptones, Third World and the UK’s Steel Pulse.

In 1982, Walsh returned to Jamaica where he formed the short-lived Redemption Posse band who toured the island for a four-month period, culminating in an appearance at the annual Reggae Sunsplash festival. Following the demise of the band Walsh returned to session work, although a solo project surfaced in 1986 when he entered the Jamaican Song Festival with his own composition, ‘True Believer’. Walsh was recognised with a Best Performer award. His accomplishment resulted in an invitation to tour Japan in 1987. The singer remained there for six years having signed a five-year contract with Sony. He recorded with local artists including Maljwa and Bitashika. In addition to recording work he starred in Japanese television commercials, was a regular guest on the renowned show NTV and also featured on a series of radio productions. In spite of his celebrity status there by 1993 Walsh had decided to return to Jamaica. He invested his overseas rewards by setting up his own recording studio. His contribution as a reggae performer has resulted in a series of low-key international accomplishments that indicate his destiny as a peripheral contributor to the Jamaican music industry, in spite of his attempts to prove otherwise.
