(Votre Billet)
In the middle of the Caribbean, a tiny island barely bigger than Corsica has become an absolute exception in the history of music. Jamaica is the birthplace of one of the major musical currents of the second half of the 20th century, there is far more to Jamaica than reggae and its universal icon Bob Marley, and its complex history extends far beyond music. "The foundation of this dub album was created by some of the finest sessions musicians ever to grace the studios of 1960’s & 70’s Jamaica. Their instruments were the cornerstone to countless Dub LP’s that began to surface in the early 70’s and continued on into the 80’s creating a whole new genre of music."

This is how Kompakt Records starts its dsecription of the new dub album by the Kingston All Stars-- "the musicians and session men who recorded at a variety of Jamaica’s legendary studios, and created so many of the classic rhythms from the 1960’s and ‘70’s".

Grab the LP here!

Included in the group are two Alpha past boys and brothers Everton (ABS '68-'73) and Everald (ABS '70-74) Gayle, woodwind and brass specialists, respectively.

The International Reggae Poster Contest (IRPC) is an initiative designed to celebrate positive international reggae culture. The contest highlights the globalization of reggae and the resounding impact of its message. The contest was founded by Michael Thompson and Maria Papaefstathiou in 2011. The primary reason for organizing the poster contest is to construct an international platform to showcase a far-reaching vision. The other important objective of the IRPC is to help raise awareness of the Alpha Boys’ School, a vocational institution for underprivileged youths, located in the heart of Kingston and founded in 1880 by the Sisters of Mercy.

The 2016 winners were just announced.
