Flute & Nut by Harold 'Little G' Mcnair

Great things come in little packages.

Harold 'Little G' McNair's hard-bop album Flute & Nut (1970/RCA) provides a remarkable mixture of big band arrangements embellished by McNair's expert mix of delicate and hard driving solos. Throughout the album, the unique rhythmic interpretations and signature original melodies create something exceptional.

Jazz critic Marc Myers describes Flute & Nut as "hypnotic." According to Myers “the arrangements are smart and driving, and McNair sails above the action, swooping in and out with strong, sensual lines. A number of the flute tracks feature McNair’s humming-playing technique. No matter how many times I listen to this album, I never tire of hearing it.”
